Tinubu Announces N25,000 Monthly Wage Increase for Low-Grade Civil Servants

In a bid to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal policy, President Bola Tinubu has announced a significant wage increment for low-grade workers in the civil service. This move is part of a series of measures aimed at cushioning the financial burden faced by citizens.

During his Independence Day Broadcast on Sunday, President Tinubu expressed empathy towards the challenges currently faced by Nigerians. He emphasized the need to endure these trying times in order to pave the way for a brighter future.

Tinubu stated, “Reform may be painful, but it is what greatness and the future require. We now carry the costs of reaching a future Nigeria where the abundance and fruits of the nation are fairly shared among all, not hoarded by a select and greedy few.”

As part of the relief package, the President outlined several key initiatives. These include public sector reforms to stabilize the economy, efforts to combat inflation, and support for the poor and vulnerable. Additionally, a provisional wage increment will be introduced, enhancing the federal minimum wage for low-grade workers for the next six months, providing an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month.

Furthermore, the government has established an Infrastructure Support Fund to enable states to invest in critical areas, particularly those impacted by rising food and commodity prices. To address transport costs, the administration is set to deploy more cost-effective and safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation, which are expected to positively impact transport fares.

In his broadcast, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of these reforms, stating, “This is a groundbreaking moment where, as a nation, we embrace more efficient means to power our economy. In making this change, we also make history.”

The President’s announcement has been met with a mix of anticipation and hope, as citizens look forward to the implementation of these measures and the positive impact they are expected to have on their livelihoods.
