Soludo- In Anambra’s treasury, I met barely N300 million and inherited hundreds of billions in debt from Obiano
By Derrick Bangura
Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the new governor of Anambra State, has claimed that when he took office, the state’s coffers contained only N300 million.
On Tuesday, Soludo confirmed this while fielding questions on Arise TV.
According to audited documents, the previous Central Bank Governor inherited debts of “hundreds of billions of naira” from his predecessor, Willie Obiano.
“In terms of the debt I inherited, it runs into hundreds of billions of Naira,” Soludo stated. We just came across roughly 300 million Naira in terms of cash. Let’s not even talk about it. Our treasury is quite amusing.
“I’m hoping that we’ll be able to make money in the future to assist us meet our promises for state infrastructure and growth.”
“However, dear brother, in terms of what I found in our treasuries, it’s pathetic.” Please don’t take us there. “God will assist us.”
Obiano was captured by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers as he attempted to flee the nation on the same day he was turned over to Soludo.
