Rivers State Attorney General Resigns, Citing Personal Principles

In a surprising development, Professor Zacheaus Adangor, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, has tendered his resignation.

The resignation was formally conveyed in a letter dated November 14, 2023, addressed to Governor Sim Fubara.

In the letter, Adangor explicitly stated that his decision to step down from office was grounded in personal principles.

The letter read, “I hereby give Your Excellency Notice of my resignation as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, with effect from the date of this letter. For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation from the said office is based on personal principles. I wish to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity and privilege granted me to serve in your administration as a member of the cabinet. My Family and I are indebted to Your Excellency in gratitude.”

Professor Adangor, who had previously served as a cabinet member under former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, was re-appointed to the position by Governor Sim Fubara.

During the initial stages of the state’s crisis, speculations circulated suggesting that the former Attorney General, perceived as an ally of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had been dismissed by the governor. However, the state government promptly refuted these rumours.
