Police Disperse Protesters as Chief Judge Resumes Office in Osun State

In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday, police operatives were deployed to disperse members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Osun State branch, who had been protesting since Monday.

The protest, which paralyzed activities at the State High Court, was in response to the alleged abuse of office and high-handedness by Chief Judge Adepele Ojo.

Chief Judge Ojo, undeterred by the protests, made her way back to her office on Wednesday. Upon realizing her presence, protesters, who had left the gate open, moved towards her vehicle. In response, police operatives on the premises fired teargas to disperse the protesters, leading to a chaotic scene with individuals scattering in different directions.

After the incident, the Chairman of Osun JUSUN, Gbenga Eludire, addressed journalists, stating, “Following the action of the police and the attitude of the Chief Judge, I, Comrade Gbenga Eludire, hereby order that workers in the sector should withdraw their service till further notice.”

This development adds a new layer to the ongoing conflict between the Judiciary Staff Union and the Chief Judge, creating a tense atmosphere within the legal community in Osun State.

The decision to withdraw services further emphasizes the deep-seated grievances and calls for resolution in the interest of the smooth functioning of the judicial system.

The authorities are expected to address the concerns raised by the protesting union members to restore normalcy and ensure the resumption of court activities in the state.
