More than 560 rural farmers in Kogi State have received free farm supplies from the federal government.

The distribution is on the platform of the Value Chain Development (IVCD) Programme supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, stated at the inauguration on Thursday in Lokoja that the gesture was made to promote food security and mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural farmers.

The Minister, who was represented by Dr Fatima Aliyu, National Coordinator, FGN/IFAD-VCDP, said the VCDP is a joint programme of the Federal Government and IFAD that is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to him, the project intends to increase the earnings and food security of disadvantaged rural households who work in rice and cassava production, processing, and marketing on a long-term basis.
