224

Women in the Ibagwa community in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State have decried the degradation of their farmlands due to mining activities.

The women called on the state government for intervention to preserve their land, stressing the need for a state policy to regulate miners’ activities.

The leader of the women, Mrs Veronica Onaji, lamented the pitiable situation of the community during an advocacy visit to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA).

Responding, the commissioner, represented by the Director of Agric Science, Dr Thomas Unongo, promised to investigate the findings reported by the women to address the issue in line with the law.
