The Federal Government of Nigeria on Sunday said it had refunded N620bn to state governments as reimbursements for federal road projects that were repaired by the various states.

Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu.

Aliyu’s remarks were contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the ministry’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Boade Akinola.

The works ministry said the Federal Government made reimbursements of N477bn to 25 states between 2018 and 2019 based on the recommendation of an Inter-Ministerial Committee working under the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Similarly, another disbursement of N143bn was made to additional five states by the Federal Government in October 2019,” it added.

Aliyu, according to the statement, assured the Kebbi State Government that the Federal Government would reimburse monies it spent on the execution of the Federal Government’s road projects in the state.

He told the governor that they were in the state to verify claims for reimbursement submitted by Kebbi for federal roads fixed by the state.

The works ministry said Kebbi was seeking N2bn reimbursement for the construction of Melando-Garin Baka-Ngaski Wara and Dabai-Mahuta-Koko federal road projects.
