Niger Junta Invalidates Diplomatic Passports Linked to Ousted Regime

The newly installed military authorities in Niger Republic have taken the decision to invalidate more than 990 diplomatic passports associated with both nationals and foreigners connected to the ousted regime.

According to copies of letters that have surfaced on social media networks, the country’s foreign ministry has formally informed diplomatic missions in Niger of the passports’ revocation, deeming them “lapsed.”

These diplomatic passports had been held by former high-ranking officials within governmental institutions and ministries, as well as former members of parliament and advisers, including the ousted president and prime minister, as reported by the official press agency ANP on Thursday.

Remarkably, around 50 of these diplomatic passports were issued to individuals from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Libya, Turkey, and other West African countries.

President Mohamed Bazoum was removed from office on July 26 and has remained under house arrest since then.

In late August, the newly established regime initiated the cancellation of passports held by various government officials who were abroad at the time, including the prime minister, foreign minister, and Niger’s ambassador to France.
