INEC records registration of over 1M Nigerians in online voter registration

More than one million Nigerians have been added to the nation’s voter register in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission said on Monday.

The commission also said that the number of fresh online pre-registrants, however, stood at 3,165,189 while 1,457,766 Nigerians applied for voter transfer, replacement of Permanent Voters Cards and update of their voter information records.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, said these in a statement in Abuja titled, “End of the first quarter of Continuous Voter Registration.”

He also announced the end of the first quarter of the CVR exercise.

According to him, youth between the ages of 18 and 34 constituted the majority with 771,770 (71.33 per cent) completed registration.

Okoye said, “Today marks the 12th week and the cumulative figures for the CVR exercise from inception show that the number of fresh online pre-registrants stands at 3,165,189 while 1,457,766 Nigerians applied for voter transfer, replacement of PVCs and update of their voter information records.

“Completed registrations now stand at 1,081,947 voters. Youths between the ages of 18 and 34 still constitute the majority with 771,770 (71.33 per cent) completed registration.”
