INEC Officials Face Transportation Challenge in Kogi Governorship Poll

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), tasked with overseeing the governorship election in Kogi State, found themselves stranded at the Ajayi Crowther Memorial School in Lokoja LGA.

This situation unfolded as the commissioned corps members and ad-hoc staff, responsible for managing various polling units, encountered difficulties in reaching their assigned locations due to a lack of transportation.

The officials, who had received the necessary electoral materials, expressed their predicament, citing a shortage of transportation options to reach their designated polling units. Remarkably, only three minibuses were available to transport over 200 electoral officials, exacerbating the challenge.

This occurrence comes ahead of an off-cycle governorship election where 1.8 million registered voters are expected to participate.

The election is scheduled to take place in 3,508 polling units distributed across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State, encompassing Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela/Odolu, Ijumu, Kabba-Bunu, Kogi, Lokoja, Mopamuro, Ofu, Ogori-Magongo, Okene, Okehi, Olamaboro, Omala, Yagba-East, and Yagba-West.
