Bandits have slain at least 20 people in Ganar-Kiyawa village, Adabka District, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The most recent incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, when gunmen invaded the town and began shooting indiscriminately, killing 20 people, including the village chief.

According to reports, the robbers also attacked nearby villages, robbed shops, and took away some goods.

Communities in the Adabka ward have been subjected to a series of bandit raids and kidnappings, according to a source in the area who requested anonymity.

Residents of Ganar Kiyawa have been sleeping in the bush because they are afraid of being attacked by bandits in their homes, according to him.

When asked about security reaction, he stated that the military was only stationed in Adabka and Gwashi town, leaving neighboring villages open to bandit attacks.

In his words, “The security agencies are not enough to mount all the villages around. We only have a military presence in two major places, Adabka town, and Gwashi.  All other villages around are left uncovered by the security agencies so these people (bandits) can just go out anytime they wish to and attack people.”
