The match was the first at the Olembe Stadium since a crush killed at least eight people last week, with CAF receiving guarantees of strengthened security and additional safety precautions.

Cameroon dominated the first half and came very close to scoring when Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui headed Moumi Ngamaleu’s corner against the crossbar.

After the break, Egypt improved and Mo Salah had a wonderful chance to break the deadlock when he pounced onto a terrible backpass from Martin Hongla, only to stutter when attempting to round goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Egypt’s coach, Carlos Queiroz, was kicked off following a series of on-field squabbles, but Ramadan Sobhi, a late substitute, came close to stealing victory in the dying minutes of extra-time with a shot across eluded the four white attackers.

Egypt is on track for a record-extending eighth AFCON trophy, while Pre-tournament favorites Senegal is looking for their first.
