Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno on Monday Inaugurated the Future Assured College built and furnished by the Aisha Buhari Foundation (ABF) to cater for the educational needs of victims of insurgency in the state.

Zulum expressed gratitude to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, for finding women and children of the state worthy of the gesture.

He said the government and people of Borno will forever remain grateful to the first lady for identifying with them in their time of need, especially in enhancing girl-child education.

Zulum said the project was a breakthrough in a quest for the education of orphans and other victims of insurgency.

He said the state government has embarked on a need assessment of schools in the state with a view to rehabilitate and rebuild the damaged ones.

Zulum assured the first lady of the state government’s determination to provide the necessary support for the smooth running of the school.

The governor however appealed to the management of the institution to make judicious use of the facility for the benefit of the students.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr Rukayyatu Gurin, who read the first lady’s message at the event, said the college was built out of Aisha’s passion to support the education of the girl-child.

Gurin said one of the essence of the college was to heal the trauma experienced by orphans whose parents died as a result of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

On his part, the former governor of Borno State and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the college, Sen. Kashim Shetima, thanked the first lady for supporting the educational needs of victims of insurgency.

Shetima, who underscored the need for wealthy individuals to support the education of the less privileged, urged the first lady to sustain the tempo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the school, which consist of Primary and Secondary sections, has so far admitted over 285 students in both sections.

NAN also reports that the college has been equipped with an ICT centre, laboratory, clinic, library, administrative block, staff quarters, multipurpose hall and worship centre.
