US Court Grants Atiku’s Request for Release of Tinubu’s Academic Records
A United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois has granted the request made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for the disclosure of President Bola Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday by US Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, the court has directed Chicago State University to provide “all relevant and non-privileged documents” to Atiku Abubakar within a span of two days.
The ruling also acknowledged the arguments put forth by Tinubu’s legal team, emphasizing that only “non-privileged documents” should be furnished.
Judge Gilbert stated, “This matter is before the Court on Atiku Abubakar’s Application Pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1782 for an Order Directing Discovery from Chicago State University for Use in a Foreign Proceeding (‘Application’) [ECF No. 1]. For the reasons discussed below, the Application is granted.”

In recent developments, following the affirmation of Tinubu’s victory by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal just two weeks ago, Atiku and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, have lodged appeals comprising 86 grounds at the Supreme Court in an attempt to challenge the tribunal’s judgment and invalidate Tinubu’s election, citing perceived errors in the verdict.
Atiku’s appeal is founded on 35 grounds, where he critiques the tribunal’s decisions related to electronic transmission of results, Federal Capital Territory votes, and other crucial aspects.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi’s appeal contends the September 6 judgment on 51 grounds.
