Tinubu’s Administration Working to Address Budgetary Constraints, says NSA

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has expressed concerns about the financial state of the nation, stating that the current administration inherited a financially strained country from the previous government led by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ribadu made this assertion on Monday in Abuja during the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference 2023. He acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the administration of Bola Tinubu, asserting that the revenue generated under Tinubu’s leadership is primarily being used to address the economic deficits inherited from the previous administration.

Despite these financial constraints affecting budgetary allocations, Ribadu assured that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring a robust and viable defence management and security apparatus in the country.

In his words, “Yes, we’re facing budgetary constraints. It is okay for me to tell you. Fine, it is important for you to know that we have inherited a very difficult situation, literally a bankrupt country, no money, to a point where we can say that all the money we’re getting now, we’re paying back what was taken. It is serious!”

However, Ribadu commended the current administration’s efforts in meeting the requirements of the armed forces, emphasizing their commitment to addressing the prevailing security challenges in the country.

“This administration is doing its best to meet our requirements, particularly the armed forces, and I believe that you leaders will be able to testify to that,” he stated.

The NSA also praised the armed forces under the current leadership for their dedication to tackling security challenges, urging unity and support for the country’s defence efforts.

“Let us come together as one and continue to support our armed forces and other security agencies with this work of securing our country for peace and stability. They have done an amazingly good job without talking, and I believe that with the support and the resolve of the leadership we have today in our country, things will only be better,” he urged.
