Three remanded for allegedly stealing woman’s handbag

A Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja on Thursday ordered that three unemployed men be remanded in police custody for allegedly stealing a handbag belonging to a female passenger.

The police charged Adeyi Jerry, 25; Emmanuel Patrick, 23, Zacks Moses,20, all of Aso C Mararaba, Nasarawa State with criminal conspiracy and theft.

The Judge, Mr Umar Mayana deferred bail for the defendants and adjourned until Dec.19 for hearing.

Mayana ordered that they should be remanded in Police custody pending investigation.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho told the court that the matter was reported by Okereke Miracle of Orozo, Abuja.

Osho told the court that on Nov. 11 the complainant alighted from a taxi which she boarded from AYA, Asokoro and forgot her handbag containing a Techno phone valued at N54, 000.

He said the bag also contained the N230 and a Zenith Bank ATM card.

During the police investigation, he said, the defendants were arrested and the N230 was recovered from them but they could not give a satisfactory account of the phone and the ATM card.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
