The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has completed the rebuilding of the vandalized transmission Tower 104 on the 330kv double-circuit line between Odukpani and Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, said in Abuja on Wednesday that work was underway to fortify other towers along the same line route that had been vandalized minimally.

In her words, “This is to enable the restringing and tensioning of the 330kv transmission line before it is energized.’’

Mr Victor Adewumi, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP) of TCN, visited the vandalism site in Oku Iboku to examine the extent of repairs made, according to her.

Despite the tough terrain, Mbah quoted Adewunmi as claiming that the tower had been repaired and that construction had progressed to an advanced stage after three weeks.

He explained that the vandalized tower was not the only one, and that restringing the transmission line would entail removing the 330kv wire from some minimally vandalized suspension towers.

He added that the nearby tension towers on both sides of the collapsed tower were also repaired by reinforcing the suspension towers before restringing the lines to ensure quality work.

According to him, the construction is 70% complete, and the TCN is working hard to complete the line and reconnect it to the national grid in one week.

Adewumi urged the public to support the TCN in its fight against power infrastructure vandalism, claiming that such vandalism was harmful to Nigerians and the expansion of electricity infrastructure.

He also assured residents of Cross River and sections of Akwa Ibom who had been affected by the vandalism that the TCN was working quickly to complete and restore the damage.
