Supreme Court Dismisses Ihedioha’s Bid to Unseat Governor Uzodinma

In a decisive ruling, the Supreme Court has rejected an application filed by Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in an attempt to oust Hope Uzodinma from the position of Imo state governor.

Ihedioha’s application sought a consequential order instructing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to him, asserting that he was the validly elected governor of Imo state in the 2019 election.

Justice Tijjani Abubakar, who delivered the lead judgment on Tuesday, declared that the application lacked merit, deeming it frivolous and vexatious. He underscored that the court had no jurisdiction to decide the matter, emphasizing that the 60-day timeframe stipulated for addressing the election issue had already elapsed.

Consequently, Justice Abubakar imposed a fine of N40 million on Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the legal representative for the PDP, for bringing forth a matter deemed inappropriate before the court.

This ruling solidifies Governor Hope Uzodinma’s position, affirming the legitimacy of his mandate as the duly elected governor of Imo state.

The Supreme Court’s decision serves as a definitive conclusion to this particular legal dispute, marking a significant chapter in the political landscape of Imo state.
