A 47-year-old man, Mustapha Saka, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing communication packs valued at N9 million belonging to Multichoice Nigeria.

Saka, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.

Police prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 23 at No 4, Industrial Avenue Ilupeju, Lagos.

Ajayi alleged that the defendant, an employee of Multichoice Nigeria as a storekeeper, stole three cartons of Senheisser, and Audio Communication packs valued at N9 million and the company’s 240 litres of diesel.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Nigeria.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until May 11 for further hearing.
