Rivers Political Crisis: Clark urges Tinubu to call Wike to order

Amidst the political turmoil in Rivers State surrounding the alleged plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, prominent elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene by calling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to order.

Clark, a respected leader of the South-South regional group, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), addressed journalists at a conference in Abuja on Monday. He pointed out that the crisis engulfing the Rivers State House of Assembly can be traced back to Wike, who served as the state’s governor from May 2015 to May 2023.

The veteran statesman from the Niger Delta emphasized that after eight years of governance in the oil-rich state, Wike should prioritize peace in Rivers State.

Recent reports detailed the upheaval in the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, where lawmakers initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. Additionally, the House removed its leader, Edison Ehie, citing alleged involvement in the burning of the Assembly Complex on the previous Sunday night.
