The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has stated that it will ensure that casualization in the oil and gas industry is kept to a minimal.
Mr Festus Osifo, President of PENGASSAN, stated this at a press conference with the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.
Osifo also made the announcement as part of the union’s congratulations message to workers in honor of International Workers Day, which is observed every year on May 1.
In his words, “For us, we are discussing with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to have a workshop, where we will bring all the stakeholders together.
“Also, where we will have an interactive session and where we come up with a communiqué that is implementable, with action plan on how we will further address the issue of casualization.”

He believes that organizing the workers would be the first step in combating casualization in the business.
The task of campaigning for such workers, he claims, will become easier to manage.
The PENGASSAN chief lamented the country’s insecurity, citing the March 28 attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train as an example, and emphasized the necessity for the country’s police system to be decentralized.
According to him, failing to address insecurity will result in a slew of problems, some of which may spill over into the general elections in 2023.
