The Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office said on Monday that Pakistan has banned sugar exports in order to stabilize prices and prevent hoarding of the commodity in the country.
In a statement, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated that the primary objective is to meet domestic demand and stabilize sugar prices for the people.
Sharif further ordered the appropriate authorities to take tough measures against the commodity’s smuggling.
The prime minister directed that hoarders, illegal profiteers, and other factors engaged in creating an artificial sugar scarcity be dealt with harshly.
Shariff cautioned that any neglect by competent authorities would be held accountable.
