On Tuesday morning, Gboyega Famodun, the APC’s state chairman in Osun, was sworn in as the new Owa of Igbajo.

Oba Famodun succeeds the late Oba Olufemi Fasade, who died in 2020.

Famoodun was decked with the symbolic “Akoko” leaves as part of the installation rites in the installation video that ex-Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sunday Akere, published on Facebook.

Famoodun, it was learned, underwent the necessary rites of installation in the early hours of Tuesday before he was publicly introduced to the natives. He was dressed entirely in white.

Famodun’s father, Oba Adelani, had reigned before the last occupant of the throne, Oba Fasade.

On Monday, the Osun State Government announced the appointment of Famodun as the new Owa of Igbajo.

The appointment was announced in a statement made available to newsmen by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, after Monday’s state executive council meeting.

The statement read in parts, “Prince Famodun was unanimously selected as the sole candidate of the Owa Oke-Ode ruling house in a meeting held on November 11, 2022.

“Until his appointment as the Owa-elect, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, a consummate politician, was the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state.

“His appointment takes immediate effect.”
