The leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has arrived at the Federal High Court in the same clothes he had been wearing since his first arraignment after his extradition.

AccessNews had earlier reported that Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday ordered that Kanu’s clothes be changed following a complaint by his counsel on how his client is not being treated well.

Kanu’s lead council, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) said he was not allowed to change clothes while in detention as the DSS had refused to obey the court order of giving the defendant Possible Maximum comfort.

During trial on Tuesday, Mr Ozekhome lamented that while in detention, Mr Kanu was neither given good food nor was he given good healthcare attention. Justice Nyako called on the DSS officer and asked why that was so, but the officer denied the allegation.

Speaking from the dock, Kanu said he had worn the same clothes since his arrest. Consequently, the judge ordered that Kanu’s clothes be changed before the next adjourned date which is today (Wednesday).

According to Justice Nyako, it is only the living that can be sued, hence she directed that adequate healthcare be given to the defendant.
