On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has granted scholarships to outstanding students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Onu revealed this during the Young Nigeria Scientists Presidential Award (YONSPA) presentation of certificates to the overall three top students who emerged champions on Monday in Abuja.
The three secondary school students who won this year’s Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award Competition will get a scholarship up to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree level, according to Onu. The scholarship can be used to study any science-related course at any university in the country.
Onu urged the winners to keep working hard to be the best they can be, especially in order to make Nigeria proud.
Mr Edet Sunday Akpan, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, had earlier stated that the Ministry will monitor the students’ progress, especially since they had been awarded a scholarship up to a PhD level.
He urged the students to be ambassadors for Nigeria, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) development, and took the opportunity to invite them to the 2022 edition of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo, which will take place from March 14th to Friday 18th this year.
The Awardees are; first position Maryam Olufunmilayo Ogunbayo of Pen Resource Academy in Gombe state, second position Gbolahan Azeem Ayinde of African Church Grammar School in Ogun state and the third position Uchendu Mmesomachukwu Judith from UNIBEN Demonstration Secondary school in Edo state.
