Nigerian Army launches operation to checkmate crime in Kwara
The Nigerian Army, on Thursday, launched a military exercise in parts of the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara to flush out criminal elements and strengthen the security of lives and property in the area.
The event took place at Oro Ago and adjoining areas by troops from the 22 Brigade with the operation codenamed ‘Operation Still Water III’.
The Brigade Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade Sobi, Brig.-Gen. Adebayo Babalola said the exercise was to ensure a peaceful, stable and secure environment for the celebration of the festive seasons and ensure that economic activities continue to thrive in the area without fear.
Babalola warned criminals to stay away from Kwara and urged residents of the state to assist the troops by providing information that would be essential to flush criminals out.
In a speech, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara implored traditional rulers and stakeholders to cooperate with the troops and other security agencies by giving them timely information to achieve their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the citizens.

Represented by Deputy Gov. Kayode Alabi, the governor said the Nigerian Army, working in synergy with other sister-security agencies, was desirous to meet the expectations of Nigerians in tackling the security challenges.

He also said that military success depended on the support given to the troops by the communities.
AbdulRazaq said the military exercise was another effort to checkmate and ward off criminal elements from gaining a toehold in the state.
“It is a thing of joy that the Nigerian Army and other security agencies are synergising to stamp out different violent crimes, such as terrorism, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping, amongst other violent crimes.
“We are succeeding, regardless of the mutation of these criminal elements in whatever form,” the governor said.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for his visionary leadership and strategic thinking in conceiving the idea of organising the exercise.
He also appreciated the Commander 22 Brigade Ilorin, Brig.-Gen. Adebayo Babalola, for his support in sustaining peace and stability in the state.
