Nigerian airlines umder the aegis of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have reversed a planned suspension of operations initially scheduled to start Monday, May 9.
The airlines had on Friday served notice of shutting down operations due to the “astronomical hike” in the price of aviation fuel from N190 per litre to N700.
However, in a statement released on Sunday, the AON cited “numerous calls from the highest echelons in government with promises to urgently intervene in the crises” for reversing its decision.
“The AON has acceded to requests to withdraw the action for the time being while we allow for a fresh round of dialogue with government in the hope of reaching an amicable solution,” the statement read.

The operators said the decision to suspend the shutdown was reached to enable customers access travel to their various destinations “for the time being during the period of discussions” with the authorities.
The AON also said it considered the national economy and security considerations, in suspending the shutdown of operations “in good faith” pending the outcome of its engagement with government.
The statement was signed by its President, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina; Executive Director, Max Air, Alhaji Shehu Wada; Chairman, United Nigeria Airlines, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo; and CEO, Arik Air, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu.
Others include CEO, Aero Contractors, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood; MD, Azman Air, Alhaji Faisal Abdulmunaf, and Chairman, Air Peace, Barr. Allen Onyema.
