Nigeria: Tinubu is prepared to ‘get dirty,’ declaring that no amount of intimidation will stop him from running for President in 2023.

By Derrick Bangura.
Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC), met with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and Olubadan-designate, High Chief Lekan Balogun, on Sunday to discuss his presidential ambitions. He vowed that no amount of intimidation would deter him from becoming Nigeria’s next president.
Tinubu, speaking at the palace of Alaafin in Oyo, which is also the residence of the Olubadan-designate, said the country was at a crossroads and that he was willing to get dirty in order to become the country’s president.
He went on to say that his visits to Oyo and Ibadan were motivated by his reverence for the royal throne, as well as a desire to seek their blessings, cooperation, and prayers as he prepares to lead the country in 2023.
“I cannot start on a project of such magnitude without asking the prayers and support of the traditional rulers,” Tinubu stated at Alaafin’s palace.
I’ve come to notify our forefathers of my intention to run for President of the United States in 2023. I’m looking for prayers and cooperation from our revered traditional rulers.
“Today, by God’s special grace, we have a Vice President, Minister of Works, Interior, and Sports in Yorubaland, unlike previously, but we still need more.” he said
Invoking the spirits of his forefathers, Oba Adeyemi declared his request had been granted, telling Tinubu that all Yorubaland’s ancestors would act in his favor and answer his requests.
He then asked the ten Oke-Ogun traditional rulers present at the meeting if they agreed with his choice, to which they replied, “We are totally in support.”
Ayo Ladigbolu, the former Arch Bishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, also prayed for his dream to be realized at the ceremony.
“We have known you and we know your origins,” the monarch stated at the palace of Olubadan designate. As a progressive, we are familiar with your history. You set the foundation for today’s Lagos. You are Nigeria’s biggest star. You helped to shape Nigeria into the country it is today.
“Nigeria would not be what it is now if Yoruba had not exist. Nigeria is a deeply divided country. We are hoping for a Yoruba president who can bring the country together. We require a leader with a national focus and national acceptance. The road may be difficult, but you shall win by His grace.”

Benue IDPs block highway, demand return to ancestral homes

Vehicular movement along the Yelwata axis of the Benue–Nasarawa highway was brought to a standstill on Wednesday as Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, staged a protest, demanding immediate return to their ancestral homes.
The protesters, believed to be victims of persistent attacks by suspected herdsmen, blocked both lanes of the busy highway for several hours, chanting “We want to go back home”.
The protest caused disruption, leaving hundreds of motorists and passengers stranded.
Eyewitnesses said the displaced persons, many of whom have spent years in overcrowded IDP camps, are expressing deep frustration over the government’s delay in restoring security to their communities.
“We have suffered enough. We want to return to our homes and farms,” one of the protesters told reporters at the scene.
Security personnel were reportedly deployed to monitor the situation and prevent any escalation, though tensions remained high as of press time.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and other relevant authorities for comment were unsuccessful.

NNPCL reveals decision not to sell Port Harcourt refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL has officially decided not to sell the Port Harcourt Refining Company.
NNPCL has, instead said it is committed to conducting an extensive rehabilitation of the facility and ensuring its continued operation.
During a company-wide town hall meeting held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, announced the decision regarding the future of the nation’s most significant state-owned refining asset, putting an end to weeks of speculation.
A statement by NNPCL reads, “The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has officially ruled out the sale of the Port Harcourt Refining Company, reaffirming its commitment to completing high-grade rehabilitation and retention of the plant.
“The ongoing review indicates that the earlier decision to operate the Port Harcourt refinery, before full completion of its rehabilitation, was ill-informed and subcommercial.
”Although progress is being made on all three, the emerging outlook calls for more advanced technical partnerships to complete and high-grade the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery.
”Thus, selling is highly unlikely as it would lead to further value erosion.”
