The bride at a wedding ceremony in Gbacitagi village in Niger state’s Lavun local government area was kidnapped on Saturday by terrorists who also stormed various towns in the vicinity and killed 10 villagers, some of whom were wedding guests.

Terrorists took away all of the wedding supplies and cash. Over 100 militants assaulted the neighborhoods on motorbikes, armed with modern weapons such as AK47 rifles.
THISDAY learnt that the terrorists also rustled a large herd of cattle and stole food items from the villages they attacked.

Some of the villages invaded according to the report were Egbako, Ndaruka, Ebbo, Ndagbegi, Tshogi, Gogata and Ndakogitu Tsonfadagabi, Kanko and Gbacitagi.
It was learned that the bandits were however stranded at Akere, where the bridge linking the community with Wushishi was said to have collapsed.
According to reports, the cattle they rustled “refused” to cross the river into Wushishi, forcing the armed men to abandon them and use alternate routes to escape.

The whereabouts of the bride and other kidnapped people were unknown at the time this article was filed.

Mr. Emmanuel Umar, the Commissioner for Local Government and Internal Security, confirmed the event to reporters but said he was still gathering data. The police were unable to confirm the occurrence.
