NGO urges Anambra farmers to imbibe best agriculture practices

Farmers in Anambra State have been advised on the need to imbibe good agricultural practices for effective and maximum yield in the country.

Mr Christopher Okoli, the Programme Manager, Sasakawa Global, an NGO from Japan, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Awka.

Okoli said that the organisation usually educate cooperative farmers’ societies on best agriculture practices which will enhance productivity in the country.

In his words, “We are partnering with the Jimmy Carter Foundation by using our extension workers to persuade farming communities on best agricultural practices.

“This includes taking care of the soil by admonishing them on the importance of organic to inorganic fertiliser which many farmers are yet to come to terms with.”

Okoli said that with assistance from the government at all levels, they would be going to the hinterland to educate farming communities on their core value chain.

“With the support, we are getting from the government, there is a need for more assistance for us to do more on improving agriculture in the state and by extension, the nation.

“Our core three point value chain teaching to farmers are regenerative agriculture, nutritional sensitive agriculture and market-oriented agriculture practices to boost production,” he said.
