President Muhammadu Buhari was presented with the global Open Government Partnership (OGP) Award by the Nigerian Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) on Monday.

The award was won at the most recent Global Summit of OGP member countries in Seoul, South Korea.

Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, NEITI’s Executive Secretary, presented the award to President Buhari at the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in Abuja, through the Minister of State for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba.

It was gathered that the presentation was part of the activities to commemorate the OGP week in Nigeria.

The OGP takes a multi-stakeholder and co-creation approach to addressing governance issues, bringing together government and civil society players.

The minister, who received the award on behalf of the President, said it was not surprising that Nigeria beat the rest of the globe to win the award in Seoul, South Korea.

Despite decreased income, Agba claimed the current administration had accomplished commendable achievements.

He mentioned the Second Niger Bridge, which is nearing completion, as well as the expansion of rail infrastructure and the Oweto Bridge.

However, the minister, who is also the National Co-Chair of the Public Sector OGP, expressed concern that Nigerians primarily focused on what was not being done.
