Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, said on Friday that he will run for President in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Onu made the announcement at a press conference hosted at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, promising free medical treatment in public hospitals and a decrease in maternal death rates if elected.

In his words, “As a man of great compassion, I am of the belief that women are great builders of nations and as such, no pregnant woman or child should die either during pregnancy or at child birth.

“This is the most challenging period in any woman’s life and they must be adequately cared for. No woman should suffer because the family cannot afford to pay hospital bills.

“Hence, all pregnant women will receive free treatment in public hospitals.”

The minister also pledged a brighter future for youngsters, but added that enthroning a larger Nigeria will require all hands on deck.

He urged Nigerians to have faith in the country, saying that despite its current difficulties, it had a brighter future ahead.

“The Almighty God that created us gave our dear nation, everything that she needs to be a leader in the world.

“Working together, we will make use of knowledge economy, driven by science and technology to make Nigeria truly great.

“My fellow Nigerians, we have the key to unlock the prosperity of our dear nation, and this key is a knowledge economy driven by science, technology and innovation.

“This is so, because no nation has ever become truly great, whether in ancient or modern times, without the efficient and effective deployment of science, technology and innovation to nation building,’’ he added.

Onu stated that he was confident that he possessed the expertise, experience, credibility, and educational background to be the country’s next president, having attended one of the world’s greatest colleges.

He went on to claim that he possessed the vision, integrity, and maturity necessary to bring the country forward, and that he could be trusted.

As a result, he urged APC delegates to elect him as the party’s presidential candidate, as well as Nigerians to elect him president.

According to reports, more than 15 aspirants have so far joined the APC 2023 presidential race.
