Matawalle Visits Victims of Army’s Accidental Bombing

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has personally visited the victims affected by the recent accidental bombing conducted by the Nigerian Army in Agabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Leading a high-level delegation, including the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Ibrahim Kana, Matawalle expressed the Federal Government’s condolences to the victims, the people, and the government of Kaduna State.

In a statement released by Mr Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Matawalle condemned the unfortunate incident but reiterated the government’s commitment to the fight against insurgency and terrorism.

Despite the setback, Matawalle asserted, “We are not going to relent in our fight against terrorism because these criminals must be defeated. We are going to continue fighting the criminals till we succeed against banditry and other criminalities in this country.”

During the visit to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna, where injured victims were receiving treatment, and the Government House, Matawalle conveyed the visit was on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

He assured the Kaduna State Government of the Federal Government’s support for the affected families and announced plans to establish a panel of inquiry to determine the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.

In response, Governor Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Balarabe, expressed heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the victims.

Emphasizing the need for joint efforts, Sani stressed that the state government alone could not meet the needs of the victims, calling for sustained support.

The minister’s entourage included top military leaders, such as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, among others, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
