Many reportedly injured as cultists clash in Anambra
There were sporadic shootings near Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State as rival cult groups clashed on Saturday morning.
Although the cause of the fight has not yet been determined, it is gathered that it took place in the early hours of Saturday.
During the shooting rampage, the cult members allegedly fired at each other while the nearby residents fled for safety.
Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police command, confirmed the event and stated that the police patrol team had increased activities throughout the entire city of Awka.
In his words, “Following the sound of gunshots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka. Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult-related incident/clash.
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
The casualty figure has yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
