The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Wasiu Adesina, has warned transport unions in the area against operating illegal motor parks.

Adesina gave the warning at a meeting with union leaders at the council secretariat on Thursday, in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

“Henceforth, any motor park that is not registered with the local government is deemed to be operating illegally and will face the wrath of the law.

“The local government is deeply concerned about the operation of illegal parks within the Ikorodu garage, Sabo market and other places.

“These illegal activities have resulted in embarrassing traffic snarls within the Ikorodu garage and its environs,” he said.

The chairman urged the unions to constitute a traffic control ‘Task force’, which would have the primary responsibility of ensuring free flow of traffic.

Adesina said the idea would augment the effort of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LATMA) in decongesting traffic at the Ikorodu roundabout.

He also warned street traders to desist from transacting businesses on the walkways.
