Kano increases Students scholarship benefits by 50%

The Kano state government has reviewed and increased the state’s students’ scholarship allowance by 50 per cent.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje announced the gesture at the pre-61st Independence Anniversary lecture held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano on Wednesday.

Ganduje, who was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said payment of the new scholarship allowance would commence soon.

He said the decision to review the scholarship was in line with the Government’s policy on free and compulsory education introduced by the government.

Ganduje, who charged students to make the best use of the opportunity to pursue their educational careers.

Commenting on the ongoing voter registration, the governor urged those eligibles to go and obtain their voter card before the expiration of the deadline.

He said there was a need for eligible students and other people in the state to register because Kano had been left behind in the online voter registration.

“We are always monitoring in other states from the beginning when it was online as we were left behind in the exercise.

“During the online registration when Osun state registered 400,000 persons, Kano registered only 100,000 people. So people should come out and register because we have the highest population,” he said.

He stressed the need for people to be alive to their responsibilities stressing that an independent anniversary is meant to reawaken the consciousness of Nigerians.

Earlier in his presentation, Dr Saidu Ahmad Dukawa of the Department of Political Science, Bayero University, Kano, stressed the need for leaders to concentrate on nation-building to have a prosperous nation.
