Intensified Military Operations Bring Relief to Kuje Residents as Criminal Activities Subside

Residents of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory have breathed a collective sigh of relief as intensified military operations have quelled the activities of criminal gangs in the area, leading to a noticeable decrease in house-to-house robberies and other criminal incidents.

Speaking to our correspondent, residents expressed gratitude for the increased security measures, noting a significant reduction in crime during recent festive seasons such as Easter and Sallah celebrations.

John Ibekwe, a resident of Angwan Gede, remarked on the swift response of the Army to distress calls, attributing the improved security situation to the concerted efforts of security agencies, particularly the Army. “The Army’s prompt response has been unprecedented. I believe there’s a different approach being taken by the commanders in these areas,” Ibekwe stated.

He also praised the Civil-Military approach adopted by the Army, particularly the Guards Brigade, which has bolstered residents’ confidence in reporting suspicious activities.

John Frank, who operates a local bar in the Kuchiyako neighborhood, emphasized the importance of community support for the troops, urging residents to provide vital information on criminal activities. “They are here for us, so we must support them by reporting any suspicious behavior,” Frank asserted.

Aliyu, a member of the vigilante group, echoed Frank’s sentiments, highlighting the positive impact of the Army’s engagement with local communities in gathering intelligence to deter criminal elements. “The Army’s encouragement has empowered us to contribute to maintaining security in our locality,” Aliyu affirmed.

However, despite the success of military operations, some residents have raised concerns about the early closure of businesses due to the heightened security presence, which could potentially impact economic activities.

The current operations build on the foundation laid by Exercise Olode M’Ole, as Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya launched Ex Enduring Peace in October 2023, a combined effort involving various security agencies, which continues to yield positive results in maintaining peace and security in the area.
