Gov. Sule to establish local processing industries in Nasarawa

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, says plans are underway to establish local processing industries, to harness the state’s abundant mineral resources.

Sule, who stated this when he visited the Emir of Karshi, Alhaji Sani Mohammed-Bako II, in Karshi Development Area, Karu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Thursday, said this was to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

It was gathered that the visit is part of the governor’s re-election campaign to development areas of the state.

The governor had earlier visited 13 LGAs of the state and held town hall meetings with stakeholders.

Sule noted that the state was endowed with numerous mineral resources, and establishing local processing industries to harness them would boost the growth and development of the state.

He urged the people of Karshi to re-elect him to realise these laudable plans.

“I am happy to inform you that the marble and tiles you see in Lagos airport and other major cities in Nigeria are manufactured in Gudi in Akwanga.

“So, we have started establishing local processing industries, mainly for our local mineral resources; we are doing all these to raise our revenue base.

“In 2019, the IGR of the state was N7.1 billion, but today due to our determination and commitment to harnessing what we have, the IGR of the state is over N20 billion, which enables us to pay workers’ salaries when due.

“We need your royal blessings because we want another mandate to continue the good work we have started.

“If given the mandate, we will ensure that more women are captured in the `Kudin A. A. Sule Project’,” he said.

Sule explained that the project was a microfinance scheme primarily for women to invest in small businesses.

Earlier, Sen. Abubakar Sodangi, Chairman, APC Campaign Council Nasarawa State, said the visit was to inform the emir of the governor’s re-election bid and to seek his blessings.

“The governor has promised to take advantage of our proximity to Abuja to create opportunities for the people of the state, especially people of Karu LGA,” he said.

In his speech, Mohammed-Bako II, Emir of Karshi appreciated the governor and his entourage for the visit.

The emir commended Sule for the good work he had been doing across the state, including in Karshi Development Area.
