Gombe Launches 4th Phase of GO-CARES Program to Empower Over 573,000 Vulnerable Citizens
In a major push to alleviate poverty and drive inclusive growth, Gombe State has officially flagged off the 4th phase of its COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (GO-CARES) initiative. The program aims to assist over 573,000 vulnerable citizens across the state.
Speaking at the launch in Amada Village, Akko Local Government Area, the Chairman of the State Coordinating Technical Committee (SCTC) and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Salihu Baba Alkali, underscored the program’s focus on supporting poor and vulnerable groups, young entrepreneurs, and rural farmers.
“Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, under whose directive the program was designed, continues to prioritise poverty reduction and economic empowerment in his administration,” Alkali stated.
Of the 573,429 beneficiaries, 152,429 will receive direct support such as agricultural inputs, cash grants, and business aid. An additional 421,000 individuals will benefit from infrastructure projects, including the construction of classrooms, healthcare centers, water facilities, and the rehabilitation of rural roads and dams.
“This phase will not only empower individuals but also enhance economic activities across the state,” said the Commissioner, highlighting the program’s impact on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and agricultural productivity.
Mr. Alkali further emphasized the administration’s goal to reduce poverty, boost IT penetration, and foster long-term economic growth. He urged beneficiaries to seize this opportunity to improve their livelihoods and contribute to Gombe’s development.
“This latest effort reaffirms the state’s commitment to building a sustainable, resilient economy for all its citizens,” he added.
