Gombe 2023: Another blow to APC as Zubairu joins Mailantarki in NNPP
A former campaign director general for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gomber State, Mr Musa Zubairu, has joined the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), dealing yet another shocker to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition PDP in the State.
He promised to back the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, and other candidates to win the state’s general election in 2023 after declaring his defection along with his supporters.
Mr Zubairu served as the DG of Governor Yahaya’s Campaign Directorate in 2011 and also in 2015 when the APC defeated the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Prior to his latest decision to defect to the NNPP, he had previously defected to the PDP.

Along with hundreds of his supporters, the former PDP chieftain was welcomed into the NNPP by the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, the state party chairman, Umar Abdullahi Maikano, the candidate for the federal House of Representatives in the Yamaltu/Deba constituency, Dr Bashir Mohammed, and the party secretary, Nasir Baba Shareef.
As both parties have three representatives, the NNPP now has an equal number of representatives in the state assembly.
The party has recently welcomed thousands of members from both the opposition PDP and the ruling APC.
In preparation for the elections, it has now established itself throughout the entirety of Gombe State and seized previous strongholds of both the ruling APC and the opposition PDP.
