234

Just three weeks before Germany heads to the polls, centre-left candidate Olaf Scholz of the Social Democrats (SPD) party is billed to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace on Monday.

At the informal meeting with Macron in Paris, Scholz, the German finance minister, would focus on, among other things, an international “climate club’’ he has proposed in an effort to boost countries willing to protect the climate.

Scholz would also meet with French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire and Mathias Cormann, the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The visit would similarly include discussions over global minimum taxation, current developments in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic and the status of the EU recovery plan, which aimed at helping to rebuild a post-COVID-19 Europe.

On Wednesday, Macron would be hosting Scholz’s election rival, the centre-right chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.
