FRSC cautions motorists against unauthorised number plates

By Matthew Eloyi – In a bid to stem security challenges in Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists against the use of unauthorised number plates.

Mr Shamaki Yerima, Itori Unit Commander, gave the warning on Friday during the stakeholder’s sensitisation meeting in Itori, Ogun State.

Yerima said the warning had become necessary for motorists as some people use illegal or unauthorised number plates to perpetrate evil in the state.

He noted that the meeting created a platform for road transport operators, motor and motorcycle unions to interact and inform operators about safety policies and best practices.

According to Yerima, the rate of unregistered motorcycles plying the roads is a source of concern, as most of them are used in committing crimes and traffic infractions in the state.

He added that it was an opportunity to admonish motorists to adhere strictly to the directive in order not to face full wrath of the laws.

In his words, “The FRSC is appealing to all motorcycle and Tricycle Riders Association to ensure that their members register their number plates with the right channel before registering at the motor parks.”

The unit commander urged motorists to embrace the use of speed limit devices to reduce fatality rate when road crashes occur.

Yerima also cautioned motorists driving against the traffic around Itori axis and its environs to desist from such act to avoid unnecessary loss of life and property.

In his remarks, Alhaji Saubana Bello, Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ewekoro chapter, commended the FRSC for the sensitisation programme for safety of lives and property.

Bello promised that the outcome of the meeting would be delivered to its members in order to ensure sanity on highways.
