Fresh explosion hits Kogi, police assure residents of safety

Kabba, Kogi West senatorial district of Kogi State, witnessed another explosion on Sunday night at a beer parlour opposite a police station, the second in a month.

The first, which generated controversy, occurred on May 11 at a pub around Lewu Junction in Kabba.

The Guardian gathered that no life was lost, unlike the first one that claimed 16 lives.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Lokoja, said there was no casualty.

The police spokesperson explained that the explosion happened at Omofemi Bar around Okepadi Quarters.

“As it is now, there is no casualty; only chairs, tables and the building were affected by the explosion. Already, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, has directed our DC Investigations and the Bomb Detective Squad to move to the scene to ascertain the nature of the explosion.

“The police is on top of the situation, as our officers and men drafted to the area have cordoned the place until an investigation reveals the real cause of the explosion,” he said.

According to the PPRO, it is very unfortunate that criminal elements are out to disrupt the prevailing peace in Kogi.

“We shall not rest until we bring to book such elements and let them see the need for peace in our society,” he added.
