Firm to digitalise FCT, other road transport systems

A private sector-driven organisation Nairaxi has said that it is set to digitalise the transport sector in the Federal Capital Territory in partnership with the FCT authorities and other state governments that are willing to partner with it to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria.

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nairaxi, Kingsley Eze, dropped the hint at a press conference tagged Digitalised Mass Transit Systems, in Cushioning the Effect of Subsidy Removal in Nigeria, on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr Eze also said that the organisation is partnering with the FCT to assist it alongside other state governments, and other road transport operators to operate effectively in terms of technological know-how, and tracking payments, among others.

The CEO noted, “We are in talks with FCT as regards how we can assist them in equipping most of their buses in terms of digitising them because our job as a private company is to assist give access to technology on how the investment of government can be more sustainable.

“We are to assist state governments and other operators to operate effectively in terms of technological know-how, the right share, tracking the payment, and others. All of this increases the efficiency of the transport system and it increases revenue and revenue is what helps the transport stay in business and that is what Nairaxi can bring to the table.”

While remarking further he pointed out that based on the need that has been found in the market and the removal of subsidy there was the need to provide palliatives that will cushion the effect through the private sector which will ensure progress in the country.

“The subsidy is removed by the federal government and we feel that there is a need to have private sector engagement as regards how we can move as a country, that is why we invited other mobility platforms, and government operators in Abuja among others on how we can improve the road transport sector of the country to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy,” he stated.

The Nairaxi is an automated fare collection system pilot production testing, which allows the convenient use of contactless smart cards as cashless payment instruments in public transportation modes.
