DJ Cuppy Makes History as First Nigerian to Host UNGA Opening Session
Nigerian singer and DJ, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has etched her name in the history books by becoming the first British-Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola and founder of the Cuppy Foundation anchored the event, themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Action Day” over the weekend, marking a significant milestone in her career.
In an Instagram post, DJ Cuppy reflected on her experience, calling it the “coolest thing” she has done in her career.
“It is so wonderful to be here. It is actually my second time DJing at the United Nations, so I must be doing something right…I would not be standing here if not for my education,” she shared. “I may not seem that cool right now, maybe due to a couple of youth delegates. But I’ve made some pretty lady moves in my career.”
Cuppy, who has interned for Jay-Z, appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list twice, and filmed MTV Cribs, added, “The coolest thing I’ve done by far is speaking to all of you today.”
She also spoke passionately about her dedication to education, revealing that she has earned three degrees by the age of 30 and hinted at completing her PhD thesis.
“I value education so much that at 30, I have three university degrees, one of them perhaps the most difficult being from New York University (NYU) right here in this city, and let’s just say I might have completed my thesis,” she added.
