Dankwambo unseats incumbent Alkali as Goje re-elected in Gombe senatorial elections

Elections have been conducted and concluded in Gombe State and winners have been announced for various senatorial districts and federal constituencies in the state, with the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winning the incumbent All Progressives Congress in most of the seats while some of the incumbents were re-elected.

Former governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo won the Gombe Central North Senatorial District, defeating the incumbent Alhaji Saidu Alkali of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dankwambo polled 143155 votes while Alkali polled 77,948 votes.

For Gombe Central Senatorial District, the incumbent Senator Danjuma Goje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 102, 916 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aliyu Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 37, 870 votes. Bibikir Muhammad of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) polled 1,155 votes.

In Gombe South Senatorial District, Mr Anthony Siyako of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 97, 956 votes to defeat the incumbent, Joshua Lidani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 36, 879 votes while Albashi Abigail of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 1551 votes.

For Akko Federal Constituency, Usman Bello-Kumo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is the incumbent was declared the winner of the election and returned elected after polling 42, 902 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aishatu Muhammad of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 37, 391 votes.

For Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, Mr Ali Isa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the election having polled 46, 146 votes to defeat Victor Mela of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is the current lawmaker representing the Constituency. Mella polled 28,251 votes while Joy Godobe of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 2205 votes.

For the House of Representatives election in Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency, the incumbent Simon Karu of APC was defeated by Obed Shehu of the PDP. Announcing the result in Kaltungo, Prof Muhammad Saidu, who served as returning officer said, “PDP polled 35,366, to defeat APC 22,983.”
