The Nasarawa state office of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) says it has received the total of 3,235 complaints and treated 2, 858 of the cases, according to Mr Musa Ubandoma, Nasarawa PCC Commissioner.
Ubandoma, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Lafia, when the commission paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), added that only 377 cases brought against various ministries, departments and agencies were left to be treated.
He disclosed that said the services of the PCC attracted no fees from complainants, and that the mandate of the commission was to ensure administrative decency and justice in the public service.
The commissioner said that the PCC had established area offices in all the 12 local Government Areas of the state, to enable members of the public, who have been wronged, to take advantage of its free services to seek redress.
He said that visit to the NCoS was to acquaint it with the activities of the PCC and also to strengthen the existing partnership between the commission and NCoS in the state.
Alh. Aliyu Yahuza, Controller of Correction, Nasarawa state command, while thanking the PCC for the visit, assured them of NCoS’s readiness to partner for effective service delivery.
“The problem we are having is with congestion, some inmates cannot meet their bail conditions, and we don’t grant bail, our own is just to notifying the authorities, capital offences like culpable homicide are not outrightly bailable.
“You must get a lawyer to listen to your case, but not all people can afford a lawyer nowadays and legal proceedings cannot continue without legal representation,” he said. (NAN)
