The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, Jos, has donated wheelchairs to 120 People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in Babaldo Village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa.

Miss Sandra Yilgwan, the spokesperson for the centre said this in a statement on Thursday in Jos.

Mr Ayuba Gufwan, the Executive Director of the Centre, who presented the wheelchairs to the beneficiaries, said the gesture aimed at ensuring that the PWDs were not left behind in society.

Gufwan, who was accompanied by Rev. Ron Rice and Philly Sorter, its partners from the U.S., said the gesture would enable the beneficiaries to attend schools and become useful to themselves and their communities.

Gufwan, a polio survivor, advised the beneficiaries not to see their disabilities as a kiss of death but as a challenge waiting to be overcome.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the wheelchairs for meaningful ventures and not engage in street begging.

In a brief remark, Rice commended the donor for the gesture, adding that it was in fulfilment of the ministry of Jesus.

He also advised the beneficiaries to enrol in school or learn a trade, not minding their physical disabilities.

The Village Head of Babaldo, Alhaji Usman Lamido, thanked Gufwan for the gesture, noting that the organisation had supported PWDs in the communities with over 500 wheelchairs in the past.

He advised parents in the community to ensure regular immunisation against polio for their children to fight the spread of the disease in the community.
