Carpenter  docked for allegedly stealing vegetable oil

The police on Friday arraigned a 21-year-old carpenter, Mohammed Sani, before a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing Kings Vegetable Oil worth N840,000.

The defendant is standing trial for theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty for the offence.

The prosecutor, Mr Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Mr Aliedema Freeman reported the case at the Karu Police Station on Jan. 3.

“The complainant alleged that within the months of March, August and November, the defendant entered his shop located at Karu market, Abuja and stole kings vegetable oil worth N840, 000.

“The stolen vegetable oil includes 20 gallons of 25litres of kings oil, valued at N630,000, five cartons of five litres kings oil, valued at N142,500 and three litres, valued at N67,500,” Adeyanju said.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant could not defend himself or deny the allegation.

The alleged offence is contrary to Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr Aliyu Alhassan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3million surety in like sum.

Alhassan said that the surety must be a civil servant, living within the court`s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 1 for hearing.
