Atiku Expresses Concern Over S’Court Verdict, Says Nigeria Is Doomed

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who ran as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election, has voiced his apprehension regarding the state of the nation.

His remarks come just 72 hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal, confirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February presidential election.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro, the apex court declined to consider the academic records of President Tinubu obtained from Chicago State University, which Atiku had attempted to introduce as fresh evidence to substantiate his allegations of certificate forgery against the former Lagos governor.

The other justices on the panel – Uwani Aji, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Abubakar Tijjani, and Emmanuel Agim, concurred with the lead judgment, thereby dismissing Atiku’s appeals.

Addressing reporters during an ongoing press conference in Abuja on Monday, Atiku stated that it was Nigeria as a whole that suffered the most significant loss due to the court verdict.

He expressed his concern, saying, “The bigger loss is not mine but for Nigeria. If the Supreme Court implies that crime is good and should be rewarded, then Nigeria has lost, and the country is doomed irrespective of who occupies the office.”
